“Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.“
David Tigchelaar | Principal of International Sharing School – Madeira
“My educational philosophy is closely aligned with the IB. I value an internationally minded approach, a conceptual curriculum, connections between disciplines and student voice and choice.
Student mental health has become an increasingly important issue and I believe that schools have a role in helping students develop self-awareness and navigate the challenges they encounter in the world.”

Development Plan
International Sharing School – Madeira’s new facilities were designed by the renowned Danish studio Rosan Bosch in collaboration with the experienced local architects Sarraiva + Associados.
This flagship campus is built on two seemingly conflicting yet perfectly harmonized pillars: the preservation of historical landmarks and the innovative learning spaces tailored to the ISS Pedagogical Framework. With a distinctive exterior façade and beautifully decorated interior walls, ceilings, and staircases, this groundbreaking approach to education will strengthen the building’s legacy and return it to its heritage as a beacon of education.
